Night Time Diapering in the Biehl House

I know that there are lots of folks who are struggling to find a night time solution that works for them.  We have tried and had success with several different systems.

Before Collin was 6 months old, we were triple stuffing his bumGenius 3.0s OS diapers.  We had the standard insert plus 2 microfiber doublers. For awhile, we were able to stuff a microfiber insert and a hemp babies little weed and that got us by.  Well, once his pees became heavier, this just wasn't working for us anymore.

So, our night time diaper success stories:

Option 1:  Lollidoo Overnight Eco-pockets: We stuff them with 1 Hemp Babies little weed ($5.95), 1 Hemp Babies Doubler ($3) and 1 newborn sized microfiber insert (we typically use the smaller insert that comes with the Rumparooz OS diapers).

These diapers are more expensive (approx. $32 when not on sale) but they are full proof for us.  I will say that the snaps can be a pain to fasten and unfasten..but there's no way Collin could ever undo them.  I'm willing to put up with that if it means we have dry sheets in the morning.

We have been using this system since June of 2010 with NO Leaks.

Option 2:  Nifty Nappy Fitted diaper, an extra Hemp Babies Doubler covered by a Weehuggers size 2 cover.  This option is trim and super absorbent.

Obviously, NN fitteds will be hard to find since they are no longer being made.  Sweetbottoms Baby Boutique has them in stock for $23.50.  A Hemp Babies Doubler will run you about $3 at Cotton Babies.  And a Weehuggers cover (size 1 or 2) costs around $18.95 at Kelly's Closet.

We've used this option multiple times and, again, NEVER had a leak.

Option 3:  A Kissaluvs OS Contour diaper, an extra microfiber doubler (again, we use the smaller one from the Rumparooz OS diaper), covered by a Weehuggers size 2 cover.

A Kissaluvs OS Contour will cost you about $10.95 at Thanks Mama.  And the Weehuggers cover will cost you $18.95 at Kelly's Closet.

The only annoying thing is that the contour does not have snaps or velcro.  I don't use a snappi because I can get the cover to hold it all in place.  You could use a snappi if you wanted.

Regardless of that, this is another full proof system for us.  No leaks.

Option 4:  A "Build Your Own Fitted" from Bum Covered Diapers.  Now, I currently have a review and giveaway up for one of these diapers (ends March 3).  So, for this option we use the fitted diaper ($6-$9--prices will be going up in April) and either a Thirsties size Large cover ($11.50) or a pair of Nifty Nappy Wool Longies.

Our fitted diaper was cow print flannel, a microfiber soaker (sewn in) and microfleece lining.

When Collin woke up, the fitted wasn't even soaked through to the outer layer.  I couldn't believe it!

So, for less than $20, you could have a full proof night time system!

Option 5: A Little Comfort USA OS Fitted ($16.97 at Otter Blotters), an extra Little Comfort bamboo doubler ($4), and a Thirsties size Large cover ($11.50).

While this isn't a very trim option, it is SUPER absorbent and we have NEVER had a leak.  Trimness is never something we care about at night time.  Collin wears shirts and pj pants so they fit over anything!

We have used this system for several months without problems!!

Option #6:  Blissful Booty AIO with 2 extra soakers (approx. $17.99)

This is a trim and super easy option.  Seriously, we just lay the 2 soakers in the diaper, put it on Collin and he's good to go all night long! This has become one of my favorite night time systems because it so stinkin' easy! And best of all?  It line dries SUPER fast! LOVE LOVE LOVE! And did you see the price?? AWESOME!

Option #7:  itti bitti tutto OS diaper (approx. $26.95)

When we use this diaper at night, we use all the inserts that come with it.  Once we snap them all in (which is super fast and easy because they are COLOR CODED!!), Collin is good to go all night long! It is soft, trim, and super absorbent.  Although a bit pricey, it's a surefire way to make sure baby wakes up with dry jammies!

Now, I should say that Collin is 15 months old, 27 pounds, nurses a couple times a night, and sleeps on his belly, back and side (he's a restless sleeper). He is usually in his diaper from 8 pm until at least 6 am. So, you can take that into consideration.

Now, all of these work for us but I can't guarantee they'll work for you.  I hope they do though!! I highly recommend each of the above night time systems.

What a comprehensive post! At my house we have just gotten use to the fact that the sheets will need changed...often. In fact my husband was up at 2am putting new sheets on our 7mo's bed this morning. We use either a Fuzzi Bun with a prefold layed inside. Or a Thirstie AOI, also with a prefold. However after reading this I think there might be hope! Now let's see how much my husband is willing to spend to not be up at 2am doing laundry :) Thank you!

We use a blissful booty XL with 2 gcloth (hemp sides together) layed in it. Works amazingly well consider my son sleeps for almost 15 hours at night. Love Blissful Booty!
