Heartbreaking news...but we have a plan

 For those of you who have been following me for awhile, you know that I have been trying to help out the family of a little boy who is battling cancer--Keegan.


A quick recap:


When he was just 7 months old, it was discovered he had brain cancer. It was treated and at his 1 year check-up it was discovered that the cancer had returned.

They found a clinical study to participate in and flew to New York. When Keegan was checked out, it was discovered that a lesion had grown back inside his spinal column--this made him ineligible for the trial because the lesion would be blocking necessary fluid. 

He was rushed home to Indiana, back to Riley Hospital where it was discovered this new lesion is inoperable. The family now has a plan to treat the cancer (http://karingforkeegan.blogspot.com/2011/07/so-this-is-how-its-gonna-be.html). 

After 6 weeks of radiation, they are hoping to take Keegan on a vacation. 

THIS IS WHERE WE NEED HELP. 

We want to raise as much money as possible so they can take a vacation of a lifetime. (Unfortunately, he is too young to qualify for the Make-A-Wish-Foundation.)

Summer Swim Diaper Giveaway Bonanza: AppleCheeks Swim Diaper Review and Giveaway

The FINAL swim diaper giveaway (I know..so sad!) is for an AppleCheeks swim diaper!!  AppleCheeks was kind enough to give me a swim diaper to review.  And I thought it would be fun if I offered my own giveaway of one!! Because I love you guys so much :)  


AppleCheeks swim diapers are made of two layers of  100% polyester mesh. This design makes it easy for the water to flow in and out...while holding in the solids.  No saggy bottoms here!

And let me tell you...it will hold in solids. Within 5 minutes of putting this swim diaper on Collin, he had a massive poo-splosion before we even made it outside to the pool.  Well, it was a pretty nasty deposit...but I can say that the solids were held in there...quite well!! Some liquid leaked out...(yes..the explosion was THAT bad) but it wasn't a solid so I'm not surprised.  Most swim diapers are meant to contain solids, not be absorbent.  So they stand up to their claims--solids aren't going ANYWHERE! 


The snaps are sturdy and easy to use and adjust--always a plus when you have an anxious toddler ready to go play!


The sizing is very generous! Collin is in a size 2 and on the smallest setting! He weighs about 30 pounds! Size 1 fits approximately 7-20 pounds; size 2 fits approximately 18-35+.  So VERY generous sizing!! 


The colors...oh the colors!! They are, quite simply, BEAUTIFUL! We chose Mojito..and it's a vibrant, almost neon green! They also now have a purple color (Samoan Sunset) and light blue (Siesta Key) -- in addition to their more known colors: corsica and bonfire! 

This diaper is also 100% Canadian made!! 


Overall, we really really loved this swim diaper!! The fit, the color, the ease of use--all make this is a great buy! While they are a little more expensive ($18.60 US), the generous sizing will allow you to use 1 size for a LONG time!!

These swim diapers are different from others in the way they go on your little one and close.  You pull them on over the little one (like training pants).  BUT...it also has a side snap for when you need to remove the diaper.  Instead of dragging the whole diaper  back down, you can unsnap one side of it and remove your little one from it.  It's a unique and handy design. 


Another feature that I love about this diaper is how TRIM it is!! It could easily fit under a swim suit (if you wanted to do that).  


Also, the high cut leg openings offer your little one lots of movement..and they look stinkin' adorable..on Collin, it looks like a little speedo!! I love it!! 


The print choices are unique and vibrant! And who doesn't love that? 

Finally, like most swim diapers, these are meant to contain messes, not be absorbent.  Although, one time Collin peed in his before I put him in the pool and so I had to change him..but the pee all just sort of collected in there..it didn't run down his leg or anything..so I thought that was cool! 


These come in sizes ranging from small to super large.  Collin owns a medium (rated for 15-22 pounds) and a large (rated for 20-26 pounds).  He has only now, at 30 pounds, outgrown the medium.  He still has LOTS of room to grow in the large--so take that into consideration when you are buying them.  


We love our Imse Vimse swim diapers--they are durable, easy to use, easy to clean and dry quickly! Oh, and they are $15.99--so not a bad price at all!

Summer Swim Diaper Giveaway Bonanza: Charlie Banana 2-in-1 Swim Diaper/Training Pant Review and Giveaway!

Giveaway #5 is for a Charlie Banana 2-in-1 swim diaper/training pant!  And I gotta say, I think Charlie Banana takes the cake on cute prints for swim diapers--but we'll get to that later.

We received the Under Construction swim diaper and it is ADORABLE!

This swim diaper is unlike the others I have reviewed in several ways.  


First, this swim diaper can double as a training pant! My frugal side LOVES this.  It can double as a training pant because it has a waterproof outer layer and a soft organic cotton inner lining with some micro terry built in. So you have some extra absorbency there! When using this as a swim diaper, that part will absorb some pool water--but how neat that you could choose to use this as a training pant too!


Secondly, the waist is adjusted by an inner drawstring! This offers an extremely customizable fit! 

Thirdly, these swim diaper goes on like undies! So, your little one can be standing up when you put them on him/her. This is great for me as I have a toddler who loves to run around and doesn't like to stop for me to put a diaper on him!  The only drawback to this is if your little one makes a mess in the diaper.  It could potentially cause problems when you are pulling the swim diaper/training pant off.  Collin hasn't used the diaper in that way, so I can't say for sure. 


Finally..the colors and prints you have to choose from are awesome! Love them!

These swim diapers come in 3 sizes -- small, medium, large.  And the great thing is that they only cost $10.99! FABULOUS!!

Summer Swim Diaper Giveaway Bonanza: AMP Swim Diaper Review and Giveaway

Giveaway #4 is for an AMP swim diaper!! Let me just say that I own another AMP product...the sized Duo Pocket..and I'm IN LOVE with it! AMP's products are top notch!

AMP's swim diaper is different from all the other swim diapers I've reviewed because it is made of two layers of soft micro-mesh.  It actually reminds me of mesh gym shorts! They are designed to hold in solids (like all other swim diapers) but they are not waterproof or absorbent--so I wait to put this diaper on Collin until he's ready to go in the pool--to minimize chances of a pee leak!

They come in 2 sizes to accommodate 6-38 pounds.  The size 2 fits Collin beautifully!

I LOVE how trim and lightweight this swim diaper is.  Since the mesh is so breathable, no water gets soaked up in the diaper.  

The snaps are super easy to adjust and are of great quality! 

They come in 3 colors - grape, red or blue...and this is one thing I wish were different--the AMP diapers come in SOOO many colors...I wish their swim diapers did too! 

This is a great swim diaper to have! It washes and dries quickly because of its design--always a plus when Collin likes to get in and out of the pool several times a day!

Wordless Wednesday: Brotherly Love

This morning, Collin and I were sitting together and he said "give bruer kisses" and proceeded to kiss my belly over and over again.  And then he decided to hug my belly :)  Hope he's this loving when baby brother comes out!

What sets this swim diaper apart from all the others is that it is one-size-fits-all!! I have yet to come across another reusable swim diaper with that feature.  You adjust the rise and waist with snaps (like a regular cloth diaper would be).  So you are going to get a lot of use out of this swim diaper!


Another feature that I absolutely LOVED about this swim diaper is that it is soft, cotton knit on the outside, microfleece on the inside with a hidden layer of PUL in between.  So it is super soft on baby's skin!


The fit is fabulous! These swim diapers are said to fit from 10-35 pounds.  However, they do say that newborn and big kid sizes are available upon request. 


Prints!!!! Need I say more?  Ok, I'll say a little more! There are lots of cute prints to choose from for your swimmer!

And finally...did you know your swim diaper could be used as a back up diaper cover?? How many of you diaper laundry procrastinators are cheering right now?  

There is nothing I disliked about this swim diaper.  It's soft, it fits well, it's one-size fits all, it's cute, it's functional...what else could you ask for?  And for 15.99...not too shabby!

Summer Swim Diaper Giveaway Bonanza: Bummis Swimmi Review and Giveaway!!

 
It's no secret I love Bummis products - their wraps, their prefolds, their Easy Fits...THEIR SWIM DIAPERS!! 

Yes, yes...I have had a loving relationship with our Bummis Swimmi diaper for over a year now.  That's right...we've been using the same size medium, clownfish Bummis Swimmi diaper on Collin since he was three months old..he is now 19 months old!

Here's what I LOVE about our Swimmi:


Generous fit.  While the medium is rated to fit 15-22 pounds..Collin is 30 and it still fits him...with room left to grow.  That's pretty awesome if you ask me! 

Durable.  This diaper has been through the wringer and is still holding up! While the colors aren't as vibrant, it is hardly showing ANY wear.  It's incredible.

Keeps in the mess.  The inner polyester mesh layer helps to hold in the mess your little one may deposit in their swimmi. 


Easy to use.  Super sticky velcro tabs make sizing a cinch!


Adorable prints!!  Clown fish, dots, turtles, fishies..love them all!

The one thing I don't love?


No laundry tabs :(  I try to just put the velcro tabs together on each other, but I don't always remember to do that. 


But that's the only complaint I have -- This is one of our staple, go-to swim diapers! Love, love, love it! And I think you would too!
