Fancy Cloth Baby Review & Giveaway

Awhile back I was sent a neat product to try from Fancy Cloth Baby. It is called the Stay Dry Snap Pouch!

This pouch is made of stay-dry material and is meant to be stuffed with prefolds, inserts, whatever your heart desires. It instantly turns your inserts into stay-dry inserts just by sticking it in the pouch and snapping it closed. And, once it is used, you can just throw it in the wash--no need to unstuff as that will occur in the washer. It is approximately 14.5" long and can be folded down to make length shorter! It is made of super soft butter suede to help keep your baby dry.

Let me tell you, this is BRILLIANT! I'm not really a big fan of prefolds--we have them and we use them on laundry day. The reason I'm not a huge fan is because they don't take the wetness away from the baby's skin. For my toddler, that was ok--we were wanting to potty train him anyway. But for my newbie, I didn't like that.

Now that I have this stay-dry pouch, I don't have to worry about that! I just take a prefold, fold it up, put it in the pouch and snap it closed.

Something else I have been doing was taking 2 of Collin's training pant inserts and putting them in the pouch for night time use. I would then just lay the stuffed pouch in a cover of my choice. It worked beautifully!

These are also great to use if you need to use diaper cream--provides a barrier!

Such a versatile product...and you can buy a six pack for just $12.95!! I think that's one of the most exciting things! These are not super expensive -- but they are so fabulous!! I also like it because it makes prefolds and covers more user friendly for daycare and babysitters. You can pre-stuff the pouch and just show the caregiver that you lay it in the cover and then put baby on it and close the cover! No having to explain how to fold a prefold.

So simple. So brilliant.

I'm NUTS about Eco Nuts!! (A review)

So when I first heard about Eco Nuts soap nuts, I thought...you have got to be kidding me...how can nuts get things clean? Well my friends, I have learned so much! Here's what I learned about soap nuts:

"Eco Nuts™ Soap Nuts are a berry that grows in the Himalayas that naturally produces a soap. The soap is called saponin, a natural cleaner that works as a surfactant, breaking the surface tension of the water to penetrate the fibers of your clothing, lifting stains from the fabric and leaving dirt suspended in the water that is rinsed away."

While the actual nuts can be used in an HE machine, I received the liquid form. Here's what is in the liquid form of EcoNuts:

"Ingredients:

Soapberry extract, vegetable glycerin, Potassium Sorbate (food grade preservative)

Eco Nuts Liquid Detergent contains no dyes, fragrances, fillers, enzymes or optical brighteners and is 100% SLS (sodium laurel sulfate) and phosphate-free."

So, I got my little bottle of liquid soap nuts and started reading the instructions. I have an HE top load washer and it said I was supposed to use just 1/2 of a cap-full. I re-read it a few times because I thought that had to be wrong. The cap on this bottle is itty bitty--and I was supposed to use just a half??

Well, I followed the instructions and as I closed the lid and pressed start, I thought "well..I'll probably be washing those again!" Well..color me embarrassed because when the diapers came out of the wash...they were CLEAN...and smelled like cloth (yes..I did a sniff test). I mean, they were CLEAN...I was and still am in shock. How can such a small amount of substance produce such great results? My best guess? Because it's awesome.

I have been using my same bottle of soap nuts for more than a month now and have not been disappointed! And I have to be honest, it feels so good knowing that I'm washing the boys diapers in something so natural. (If the food grade preservative has you worried (due to allergies, etc), then I recommend going with the actual nuts.)

I am NUTS about Eco Nuts!! Safe, natural, effective..everything you want from a laundry detergent!!

3 Things You Should NEVER Ask A New Mom...and several things she'd love to hear!

The first time I became a mom, it was an experience unlike any other. To be filled simultaneously with so much joy, love, uncertainty and fear was a whole new world for me. Sure I had read books and talked to other moms..but now I was the mom..and it was up to ME to make sure this little person thrived. Baby is crying, oh gosh, what do I do? Feed, change, burp, still crying..now what? Oh dear, baby has hiccups..what do I do? Oh dear, baby wants to play at 3 am..what do I do? Etc, etc, etc...

Well, the second time around wasn't near as scary! In fact, I was confident and excited more than anything else! I knew what I was doing. I didn't get overly hyper -- just knew to stay calm and listen to the baby. Of course, it helped that we had past experiences to draw on now.

I also knew how to ignore certain comments and questions from people who, in all honesty, meant well but left first time mom Crystal feeling like a fool. There are just some things a new mom doesn't need to hear...and there are several things I bet she'd LOVE to hear.

#1 Thing You Should NEVER Ask a New Mom:

"Is your baby sleeping through the night?"

Seems simple enough. But for a first time mom, that question can bring about fears and doubts like no other. I can't tell you how early I started hearing that question with my first child. And of course I would think to myself "well, no, he's not..oh no..what am I doing wrong?"

Well fast forward to baby #2 and to 2nd time mom Crystal who's learned a few things. I was recently asked this question to which I replied "Well, he occasionally gives me a five hour a stretch at night, and for his age (almost 4 months) that IS sleeping through the night." Of course, this doesn't happen every night. Sometimes it's three hour stretches, sometimes four. But experienced mom says that's ok! Every baby sleeps differently. Heck, Collin didn't sleep through the night until he was 18 months old. Even now he still wakes up sometimes if he has a bad dream or doesn't feel good.

#2 Thing You Should NEVER Ask a New Mom:

"Is s/he a good baby?"

This question just annoys me. By asking it, it is implying that a baby can, in fact, be bad. How can a baby be bad? If a baby cries, does that make him/her bad? Of course not. Crying is a baby's way of communicating -- "hey, I have a dirty diaper!" or "hey, I need to eat" or "hey, I want to go to bed" or "hey, I need some snuggles!" or "hey, I have gas" or "hey, I have teeth trying to come in" --

Now I think a baby can have a more difficult temperament for sure. Collin had colic--there were times he cried for 2-3 hours stretches while we just walked him around the house, holding, hugging, sometimes crying with him. So I would have no problem saying "my baby is a bit difficult"--but to say he's bad? NEVER. It's not like the baby is laying in his bed thinking "how can I make my mom cry today?" <---that would be a bad baby...

#3 Thing You Should NEVER Ask a New Mom:

"When will you feed him/her real food?"

First off, breastmilk and/or formula is real food for baby. Give the mother a break! If she's breastfeeding, and this is her first child, she's just learning the ropes. She doesn't need to start thinking about solid foods yet. Same goes for formula feeding as well. Maybe back in the day it was okay to put rice in the bottles at 2 weeks old..but times have changed, people have learned new things! For example, many pediatricians, including my own, say to let the baby decide when s/he wants solid foods--you'll know because the baby will start reaching for your food! Breastmilk and/or formula is all a baby needs, really, for at least a year. Anything extra is just a way of introducing new textures or flavors (according to many pediatricians...including my own).

One thing at a time people, one thing at a time.

Now, we've covered the NEVERs. Let's talk about things a new mom (or heck a 2nd time mom, 3rd time mom, etc) would LOVE to hear!

#1: "Can I bring you a meal?"

Want to become my best friend? Want to make sure I give you part of the millions we're going to win someday if we ever play the lottery? Then offer to bring my family a meal once the new baby arrives. New moms (and dads) are sleep deprived and running on adrenaline as they try to learn how to care for a new completely dependent being. Offering to bring a meal means that mom or dad doesn't have to get all the groceries out, prepare the food, serve the food and/or clean up the mess from the meal. They just get to eat and be with baby. Meals, either warm and ready to eat or freezer ready are ALWAYS appreciated...for MONTHS after the baby is born!

#2: "Can I help you with some housework?"

When each of my children were born, the last thing I wanted to do was take time away from them to do laundry or mop a floor or clean a toilet. I just wanted to hold and cuddle and get to know this new person. It would be wonderful if someone called me up and said "hey! I wanted to come see you guys...while I'm there, can I throw in a load of laundry?" or "Can I fold that laundry for you?" You've just taken one thing off my dreaded to-do list...you can bet you'll be getting a Christmas card from me this year!

#3: "What time is best for us to come over?"

It's just courtesy. Please don't just show up and ring the doorbell (dear God NEVER ring the doorbell). Give me a quick call or text to see when is best to come over. As a first time mom, I was nervous about nursing my baby in front of guests -- I would make sure people came over when I thought baby wouldn't need to nurse. Of course with baby #2 I just made sure to state that our home was boob friendly and didn't care :) Ha, live and learn.

Besides that, it's quite possible I haven't showered yet...so unless your olfactory senses aren't so sharp...you'll benefit from the call or text as much as I will.

#4: "How are YOU doing?"

Sometimes, new moms want the chance to talk about grown-up stuff with grown-ups! Feel free to ask me how I'm doing. I'll be thrilled! I might talk your ear off..but you're a good friend..you won't mind!

#5: "Can I take (insert sibling's name here) to the park/movies/my house for a couple hours?"

Ok, so this is more for a mom who already has a toddler. But if you are close to the family, and the toddler/sibling is comfortable with you, offer to do something special with him/her. It will not only be nice for the toddler to get out of the house and do something just for him/her, but it gives the new mom/dad some one-on-one time with the new baby.

#6: "I'll watch the baby (kids) while you shower/take a bath/take a nap/etc."

Have a couple hours to spare, offer to hang out at my house while I take a shower or a nap! With my first, I was afraid to leave him alone -- so I would wait until my husband got home before I showered. If you come over and hold the new baby while I shower, not only will I love you, but my husband might appreciate it too--getting to come home to a wife who feels refreshed!

I found these to be incredibly absorbent--from the liner to the 10" pad...all of them were excellent in their absorbency. These were my preferred mama cloth of choice for night time.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day...and this year, more than any other, I feel especially grateful for the path that Dr. King forged...for the sacrifices he made.

Don't get me wrong...once I became an educated adult, I have always appreciated America's civil rights leaders and the changes..the amazing changes...they helped our country make.

I appreciated it even more when I became a teacher and got the chance to help middle schoolers understand the importance of tolerance, diversity, team work...

But this year, there is a little man in my life who, based on the color of his skin, wouldn't be a part of our lives if it weren't for Dr. King and so many other leaders who realized "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

Thank you, Dr. King, for showing so many that love is stronger than hate.

Thank you for leading the way and making it possible for my little nephew to be a part of our lives.

We Keep Coming Back...

So, when I first started cloth diapering with Collin, I only knew of 2 brands...one of those being bumGenius. Once we were ready to fully commit to cloth, I purchased 12 bumGenius 3.0s from Thanks Mama and then ended up buying 12 more a month later. Those were our diapers. I was perfectly happy with them!

But then I discovered the world of cloth diaper giveaways. Suddenly, my bumGenius 3.0s were not so exciting...I wanted to try all those new brands I never knew about!

I entered like crazy and won like crazy! I fell in and out of love with all sorts of cloth diaper brands. Our bumGenius diapers kept getting shoved to the back of the pile. In fact, at one point, I had given away all but 3 of our bumgenius 3.0 diapers. They were our first cloth diapers..I couldn't get rid of all of them...

And then I entered the review world and got to find several more brands of cloth diapers that we liked and loved! Our stash grew and grew...and our first loves continued to sit in the back...collecting dust..

Some time passed and bumGenius released 4.0s and we returned to our first brand of cloth diapers. Our first love. I fell in love all over again with bumGenius. Really, I never fell out of love with them...even though we ventured out to try several other brands..I realized we kept coming back to bumGenius...why? Because they are great for us--great fit, great price, great colors and prints, great absorbency.

Andrew's stash of diapers consists of just 3 different brands--we love them all--but bumGenius has been around the house the longest and will always be our first love :)

Ringin' in the New Year...Family Style :)

We rang in 2012 with my brothers, their wives and kiddos, and my parents! My parents rented us suites at a hotel near Indianapolis and we all hung out and celebrated Christmas and New Year's together..in the same night!

The kiddos had so much fun playing together! Collin is 2 and his cousins are about 1 1/2! They were all interested in little baby Andrew :)

It was very fun and just...perfect.

p.s.--And while it is cliche...I really am working to lose weight and get in shape this year...I started before the new year..if that makes it more legit ;)

So what did I think about the pads?

Well, here are the goodies I received:

The first thing I noticed and liked about these is that they have a hi-tech Nylon backing. You can rest assured there will be no leaks from these ladies!!

The second thing I LOVED about these is that they are SUPER trim...the trimmest of my collection. And while they are trim, they are also absorbent! The overnight worked great overnight and the liner is fabulous to wear all day. There is NO bulk with these pads. I forgot they were even there!

Thirdly, the wash and wear on these is great! These have probably been washed 6-8 times and they still look great! You do not have to worry about the craftsmanship at all!

And finally...I mean..look at those prints! CUTE, no?! Never thought having a period could be made less "blah" by having a cute pad to use!

Overall:

This week, Mama is excited to talk to you about Lunapads! Lunapads ensure that you have an "eco positive period." At Lunapads, you have many options! They carry pads, liners and kits (which help you save money!). They range in absorbency and fit from light/petite to heavy/long.

Their design is quite unique, too! The pads "feature 2 parts: a Pad Base with wings that fasten around the gusset of your underwear, and a Liner Insert that is secured to the top of the Pad with ric-rac band." What I think is neatest about this is that you can add liners for extra absorbency! So you can really customize your pad! And their Pad base "contains 1 layer of ultra-thin nylon to minimize soaking through."

And with fabrics, you get the option of regular cotton and organic cotton (a little extra $)--which I know is important to many of you!

So, My Thoughts:

Well, here are the goodies I received:

Absorbency: Great! Even without any additional liners, I never had any issues! None!! And I could wear for several hours at a time.

Fit: Very comfortable! Since you can snap the wings and THEN adjust, you could position it just perfectly. I never noticed it while I was wearing it. Also, very TRIM!

Quality: Outstanding!! After several washes, these still look brand new! The stitching is phenomenal--nothing is going to be coming apart!

Appearance: The fabric choices you have are SO cute! I know, I know..not super important, but still noteworthy!

Price point: Between $14-25 (depending on size/absorbency). Kits/Package deals are definitely the way to go--as you save money by buying more!!

Overall: These would be a great buy! With the option to add liners for absorbency, they are truly a customizable mama cloth.

Well I am super pumped to tell you about Domino Pads. In fact, I'm so excited to tell you how much I loved their mama cloth, that I'm just going to jump right into the review and then I'll tell you more about them later!

My Thoughts:

One Word: LUXURIOUS. Wow, oh, Wow. When I got these in the mail, I couldn't believe how incredibly soft and squishy they were. Seriously...I want clothes made out of the material my mama cloth were made out of.

I absolutely LOVED the design.

The minkee pad has a synthetic layer that touches your skin and then a blend of bamboo fabrics for the soaking layers. It is set on top of their Windpro fleece which is leak-proof and breathable!
The bamboo pad has an organic bamboo velour (OBV) layer that touches the skin and then a blend of other bamboo fabrics for the soaking layers. It is set on top of their Windpro fleece which is leak-proof and breathable!
The pads also have single layer wings that snap! Once you put this on...you can't even tell you are wearing it!! I was amazed. It was just so incredibly comfortable.
Also, the pads have open ends which are designed to allow more airflow in the dryer, making them dry quicker (which they do!!)

Superior Absorbency!

Since my last cycle was pretty light, I was able to wear one of my Domino Pads the entire day. I also had NO problems overnight!

The fit was fantastic.

They are the perfect length for great coverage, without the bulk! But my perfect fit might not be your perfect fit--and guess what?? That's okay because you have 7 different sizes/absorbencys to choose from! WOW!! Talk about customizable!!

Great price point!

Depending on what options you choose, you can spend from around $10-20 ($20 being the biggest and heaviest absorbency possible; $10 being liner/light absorbency.

I know I was spending around $20/month on disposable pads/tampons--so to think that I could buy, let's say 12 hand-dyed bamboo Medium Length/Absorbency Domino Pads for around $144. In 7 months, I will have spent that on disposables. I'm 27 years old....so let's say I have at least 20 more years of periods--at around $240/year for disposables that's over $4,000 I would be spending.

Or I can spend a couple hundred on some amazingly absorbent and comfortable pads and be done. And since I just wash these with my towels, there's no extra laundry costs.

It's a no-brainer!

Wash/Wear Well!

Since I used these multiple times in a week, they were washed a few times and have held up well. In fact, they still look new. No stains, no wearing of the fabric.

They look awesome!

I know I know--that might not be very important but still, it is noteworthy! I would actually call them beautiful. Ha, never thought I would say that about a feminine hygiene product.

Mama's Makin' the Switch: CC Bums Mama Cloth Review

I am SUPER excited to start off my Mama's Makin' the Switch event with a review of some mama cloth from CC Bums. Now, before I started thinking about mama cloth, I only knew of CC Bums as a cloth diaper maker. But oh no--that's not all she does! Nope, she's got cloth diapers, bibs, fleece soakers, nursing pads, hats, shirts, wipes, wool toys...talk about a ~~jack~~ jill of all trades!

But today my focus is on her mama cloth. Let me give you the short version of my review first:

L O V E !!!!!!!!!!

If you missed my previous post, here's why I am doing this event. If you don't feel like reading it, here's a summary: Ran out of crappy, yucky, diaper-like pads...used an old wash rag...realized mama cloth would be awesome!

So anyways, I asked you all who your favorite mama cloth makers were, and CC Bums came up several times! So I HAD to try them. Thankfully, she was kind enough to let me use a 50% off code to make my purchase so that I could try them and tell you all about them!

SO, what did I think?

Well, first let me tell you what I bought!

I bought:

1 cotton velour white mama cloth - light

1 greenish hearts set of cloth

1 pink diamond minkee liner

Ok, ok..my thoughts:

SO FLIPPIN' COMFORTABLE. Seriously. I couldn't even tell I had any of them on. The minkee and velour were particularly amazing...What a nice change from itchy, sticky, yucky plastic.

Were they absorbent? YES! Without going into much detail, it was a lighter visit from Aunt Flo so I was able to use them for longer stretches of time.

Were there *whispers, hand over mouth* any odors? NO! If you are worried about that, don't be.

Did they wash well? YES! I didn't have any stains on them when they came out of the wash. It is recommended you rinse them off before washing--but like I said, since things were lighter this time around, I didn't even bother with that. For future use, I'll probably keep a peri bottle around to rinse them before I put them in my wet bag.

Are they affordable? YES! While I did receive a special code in order to complete my review, it only would have cost me just over $14 for those goodies!! That's not bad at all..considering how much I was spending on disposable items..every single month!

Other noteworthy points:

One of my all-time favorite things is that you can adjust your mama cloth once it's on--not like sticky, yucky plastic. You can snap your mama cloth on and then adjust it to where you need it...this is SO nice!

Now, with regards to washing. I know you still might be thinking, "that's gross." But I want you to think about something...your wash cloths. You use wash cloths right? Well, if you do, think about what's on those when they get thrown in the wash...I'll give you a minute....ok, see? Now, I actually washed my mama cloth with a load of wash cloths (it seemed only natural) and that worked great! Then I wasn't doing a special load just for the mama cloth!

To Sum It Up:

You will NOT be disappointed if you buy your mama cloth from CC Bums. With so many great fabric choices and the affordability...you can't go wrong!

La, La, La, La, La, La...Elmo's World..and Keegan's Too!

One of Beth's friends had an awesome idea. As a way to honor and remember precious Keegan, let's all get an elmo ornament to put on our Christmas trees. Keegan LOVED Elmo and this would be a neat way to remember him each year. Every Christmas, when you pull out that ornament, you can remember Keegan and say a prayer for his mom and dad, Beth and Ryan.

A Heavy Heart

Today my heart is heavy and I just need to write. I'm not trying to start any debate or anything like that..I just want to talk...

An internet mommy friend, Beth, whom I've actually met briefly twice, is doing something no parent should ever have to do; today she and her husband are laying to rest their 2 year old son. Keegan died a couple days ago after a life-long battle with brain cancer.

I heard of Keegan's story early on because my parents lived in Evansville and we went to a fundraising garage sale they had. When I got home, I googled "Karing for Keegan" and found Beth's blog...and never stopped following.

As a mother, I felt this need to do anything I could to help her family. Thankfully, many of you felt that same need as we hosted auctions and raffles.

I have prayed every day for that family; for peace, for comfort, for strength, for a miracle. And I will continue to pray for them; for the next days, weeks, months, and years. I cannot even begin to fathom what they are feeling and dealing with.

The Christian in me knows that Keegan is in a place far better than anything in our wildest imagination or dreams. He is with Jesus and I know that Jesus loves the little children; how wonderful that Keegan is out of pain and with his heavenly Father.

The mom in me is beyond devastated for Beth. While I know that she will see her son again, I also know that he is gone from this earth. She can't hold him again; only his memory, until they meet again--which they will. My heart is so heavy for her and her family.

And I know it's human nature to ask Why? Why her? Why her child? Why does any child get cancer? Why does any child have to die? I don't know the answers to those questions. I do, however, believe that bad things happen and when we cry, God cries with us. I believe that shitty things happen and God somehow finds a way to make something meaningful come out of it; I do NOT believe he does these things to people. But sometimes I wonder why some miracles occur and others do not. I don't understand everything, but that's okay. I have faith that God knows what he is doing. And I really do believe that God doesn't give you more than you can handle; and because I believe that I know that Beth is one damn strong woman....

But still, today, I cry and my hearts hurts because no mother should have to bury her child. Nobody should. I just pray that God will give Beth and her family the strength they need to mourn the loss of their child and to celebrate the life he had and the spirit that will live on through his story and his family.

You're becoming a little boy.

A little boy who fills this house with laughter--
yours, mine, your father's...anyone who enters.

A little boy who uses his imagination
to drive his cars to Mimi's house (look out for the slippery curve in the kitchen!)-

A little boy who loves to "write" his name--
it's okay, sweetie, swirly circles definitely look like COLLIN.

A little boy who loves to repeat everything he hears--
everything he hears...

A little boy who is so proud of himself when he potties on the toilet,
draws a picture, stacks up blocks, kicks the blocks down, "writes" his name...
We're proud of you too!

Yes, you're a little boy now--
but I love that you still love to snuggle,
and give hugs and kisses.

I love that you still like to rest your hand on my chest when you're falling asleep--
I suppose it brings the comfort that nursing once did.

And that you still like to hold my hand when we're out and about
or when you get scared--

There are still glimpses of that little baby we brought home 2 years ago--
perhaps we see that baby more during temper tantrums (hehe)--
But we still see those beautiful, big blue eyes--
that big, round head (hey, 100th percentile and proud!)--
that adorable, cheesy grin--

But now, we get to see glimpses
of a future you--
one we think will be caring,
compassionate, determined.

You are such an amazing little boy
who constantly leaves us in awe with
the things you learn every day.

Life with you has been an adventure--
we've had some tough times (still do here and there),
but the joy and laughter and love
has filled out hearts, and minds, and souls....

We are so lucky to be your parents.
We are so blessed that God made you our son.

We love you.

MiniMaestro Cloth Diaper Review

Recently, I was contacted by MiniMaestro wanting to know if I'd be interested in reviewing one of their diapers with Andrew. Ever the fluff ~~addict~~ enthusiast, of course I said yes!

Do you know much about MiniMaestro?

They are a cloth diaper company in Canada, our fluffy neighbors to the north. MiniMaestro cloth diapers developed out of a mother's desire to save money and make a difference in the family budget (I hear ya there!).

She wanted to design a diaper that was trim, leak resistant, easy to use and to clean, made in Canada and of course affordable.

And she did.

We received a size small MiniMaestro pocket diaper in the beautiful color Little Prince.

Features of the MiniMaestro diaper:

It has a waterproof outer shell. The PUL is sturdy and well made!

The inside is made of super soft microfleece. Seriously...it's like putting a blanket on your baby's bum

It has form fitting elastic at the legs to contain messes.

A wide pocket opening in the back to stuff the insert (no need for tiny elf hands here!)

Long folding APLIX tabs that actually stay put in the wash!! No diaper chains!

The insert is made of a combination of synthetic and natural fibers between two (2) bamboo fleece layers. The insert becomes more absorbent the more you wash and dry it.

Our Thoughts:

My #1 favorite feature of this diaper is the superior fit! One thing I love about sized diapers is how trim they are. With the generous aplix on the front of the diaper, it easy to adjust this diaper to get a PERFECT fit. Seriously, perfect. And with the way it is designed, you aren't worried about the aplix rubbing on baby's belly.

Another feature I love about this diaper is the inside of it. It is SUPER soft...and I always feel good putting it on Andrew. It's like wrapping his butt in a blanket...who wouldn't like that??

The insert is quite absorbent. Now, I do recommend washing and drying the insert perhaps 2-4 times before really letting baby go crazy in it. I was ~~ridiculous impatient~~ super excited when the diaper arrived and only washed it once before we used it--and Andrew had a massive poop...we had a leak but only because the insert hadn't reached its full absorption potential. 3 washes later and I don't have any issues using this for 3-4 hour stretches!! It is wonderful!! Just don't be impatient like me :)

Another wonderful feature is the aplix tabs! They fold in on themselves for wash day--which is so nice that there is nothing scratchy in the back of the diaper, irritating baby's skin. Oh and these tabs STAY folded in while being washed...you won't have a diaper chain when you pull them out of the washer!

The sizing is generous as well! A size small will fit from 7-16 pounds! At just 12 pounds, Andrew is going to get a lot of use out this diaper!!

Finally, I absolutely LOVE the vibrant color choices! Outstanding!

Our neighbors to the north sure know how to design and create a fabulous diaper!!

My lived-in house

So I finally decided a few months ago that I was done apologizing for my messy house. In fact, I heard the expression "lived in" and that's what I have adopted. My house is lived in. On any given day, there is laundry to be folded, toys and book strewn about, dirty dishes on the counter.... And ya know what? THAT IS OKAY!!

Clean laundry means my family has clean clothes to wear.

Toys and books all over the house mean I play with my kids and we have fun!

Dirty dishes on the counter mean I'm feeding my family.

I visited a mama friend once and she said "don't mind my lived-in house" and I thought..that's perfect. My house isn't a museum. My self-worth isn't based on how clean my house is, how recently I dusted, how shiny my floors are. My house is lived in by a mommy, a daddy, a toddler and a baby who would rather read a book, wrestle in the living room, or play a game on the ipad rather than unload the dishwasher or fold some laundry.

Now, yes, that stuff does eventually need to get done--but that's what nap time and bed time is for--and ya know what..sometimes I'm just too tired..and that's okay too!

So if you ever come over, please don't mind my lived-in house :)

Modern Cloth Newborn Diaper Rental Review & $25 gift card Giveaway!!

I am SO excited to share my Modern Cloth newborn diaper rental experience with you guys. You see, when Collin was born, we had covers and prefolds. Those were fine--but I wasn't in love with them. We had 2 bumgenius newborn diapers that I was in love with. But, Collin outgrew them so quickly that there was no use investing in newborn diapers when we could just one-size diapers.

But...20ish months later...Andrew is growing in my belly and I start to swoon over all these newborn diapers..so tiny, so cute...so convenient!! But I knew that Mark and I probably weren't planning on having any more children (that fact was made even more clear after the scary events when Andrew arrived)--so I didn't want to invest in a whole bunch of new newborn diapers. I sold off what one-size diapers I could bare to part with and bought a few newborn diapers here and there. But I knew I would need at least 24 if I didn't want to have to wash every single day. I also knew we didn't have the money to buy 24 newborn diapers.

Enter Modern Cloth. A fellow cloth diapering mommy told me about Modern Cloth's newborn rental program...and I was hooked!

Here's how it works:

Choose between new or gently used packages (new are always available; gently used has a waiting list so you'll want to get your name on there)
You can pick between 5 different diaper options (prices vary):

Bumgenius nb AIO
Kissaluvs nb AIO
FuzziBunz XS
Kissaluvs Fitted/Thirsties wraps
Bummis Tini Fits

You can choose how many you want to rent - 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 (again, price goes up with the more you rent..obviously)
You get them a few weeks before your due date (LOVE LOVE LOVE this!!)
Then you get to use them for 12 weeks -- starting from the DAY your baby is born...not just whenever your due date is. (LOVE LOVE LOVE this!!)
At the end of your time, you package the diapers back up and ship them back to Modern Cloth. Assuming there was only normal wear and tear on your diapers, your deposit will be refunded (because you pay for the rental + a deposit).

It's that easy! And if you are a cloth diapering newbie..don't worry! She sends complete instructions on how to care for your diapers!

So, what was our experience?

AWESOME. We received our diapers a couple weeks before Andrew's due date. This was wonderful since Andrew ended up being delivered 5 days earlier than we anticipated.

We rented 12 gently used bumgenius newborn all-in-one diapers. We paid $40 for the rental plus a $50 refundable deposit. So...for $40...I got 12 bumgenius newborn diapers to use for 12 whole weeks!! That's a little more than $3/diaper. Unless you are just one lucky deal finder...you aren't going to be able to buy bumgenius newborn diapers for that price.

Now, something Modern Cloth offers is that you can either get your deposit refunded (which is what I chose), OR you can turn it into store credit and she'll throw in an extra $5! How cool is that? If we were having more kids (and needed more diapers), this is the way to go!!

OR! Yes, there's another or. If you have fallen in love with your diapers, you can email them about purchasing them and they'll give you a cost breakdown!

I should mention you will be responsible for the shipping costs.

In my opinion, this has got to be one of the best newborn diaper rental programs out there. If you don't want to have to invest a lot of money into newborn diapers (since they aren't in them very long), this is the way to go. I am so thankful we had those 12 extra diapers--essentially one day worth of diapers for a newborn.

Now, the only thing I was disappointed about had nothing to do with Modern Cloth. Our first child came out almost 9 pounds so we expected Andrew to be large as well. However, due to unknown placenta problems, Andrew came out at 5 lbs 12 oz....the bumgenius newborn diapers did not fit him right away. If I had it to do over again, I would rent the bummis tini fits since those fit Andrew from birth! So if you aren't sure how big your little one will be, I recommend the tini fits!

If I could make one suggestion to Modern Cloth it would be to also have a Grovia newborn rental pckage and a Bitty Bee (from The Little Bee Cloth Diaper Co.) rental as well!!

My day-long journey to choosing mama cloth

Ha..so...before I explain the title of this post...let me back up. When I learned about modern cloth diapering, I was excited (still am). I love it! When a friend told me about mama cloth, I said "gross" and never gave it a second thought. I know, I know...considering the usual ways of dealing with Aunt Flo, you'd think I'd welcome something that seemed more comfortable..but the thought just made me cringe...

Fast forward almost 2 years later...I'm at home with both the boys and am needing some...necessities..I wasn't ready to attempt going out on my own with them..so I grabbed an old wash cloth, folded it how I needed and..well..used it for the day. At the end of the day, I just threw it in the wash with the other dirty clothes...

And then I had my epiphany. In fact..I think the conversation I had with myself was:

Myself: "Wow..you are so dumb...how is this any different than mama cloth?"
Me: "Oh..um...it's not..mama cloth would be better..."
Myself: "Duh"

When I shared my epiphany with my husband (because he too had been of the "that's gross" mindset like me), he added, "it'd be a heck of a lot cheaper than buying all that other stuff all the time..." And, something he might not have thought of...I won't have to send him to the store to pick it up..ha!

So there it is...it took me all of 1 day to figure out that I want to use mama cloth...but now..how do I decide what to get?????

Entering ever-so-gently into potty training...

So, Collin has been battling some irritation in his diaper area recently. Our doctor said that for some kids, their urine is just more irritating to the body than others and the only way they'll get better is when they potty train. In the mean time, he wanted us slathering on the zinc oxide and such.

Well, after a week of that, I decided enough was enough. Collin has been interested in the potty for a few months now. He is in the routine of pottying before and after his baths. And, basically, he can pee on command. Anyways, I know they say a kid isn't ready to train until they are dry through the night, but I figure, if Collin is willing to pee in the potty during the day...why not? He knows if he pees in the potty, he gets a treat. So, there are times when he says "Treat!" And runs to the potty--lol! But for the most part, I just pay attention to when he has juice and steer him that way when he's probably ready to pee. He also starts doing a little dance or getting a serious look on his face when he needs to pee--so I say "oh! let's go to the potty!" Whenever he's done he always says "Good job!" He's still had a few accidents in his undies, thankfully they were on the hardwood floor. But accidents are normal and to be expected.

It has only been 3 days and already his diaper area is looking awesome. The only time he has a diaper on is for his one nap and for bed time. The rest of the day he is in undies. I did just buy a Flip training pant with the 5 inserts because, while he's all for peeing in the potty, he has no interest in pooping on the potty. He knows when he has to poop--he tells me he is going to poop..but when I offer the potty he says (yells) "No!" Not sure what it is about pooping in the potty, but he's not on board with that yet. And I figure that's okay! We'll get there. I don't want to force him or make him cry about it--that would just ruin his love of peeing in the potty --lol!

So we are entering ever-so-gently into potty training...did I read any books? No. Did I read any articles? No. But I value my mom's opinion and her expertise (she did potty train all 5 of us kids!). She stayed with us for a month after Andrew was born and gave us some potty training encouragement!

We'll see how this goes :D In the meantime...I'm loving the decrease in laundry!! With Collin only using 2 diapers a day, I can steal his OS diapers that fit Andrew and only have to wash 1 load every 3 days!

Of course, you might be saying, "well there are tons of free software programs out there, I'll just stick to those." And yes, there are tons of free ones. But I've used several and can tell you, this software is better--and let me tell you why.

#1 reason this software is my favorite: All of the pre-made templates are completely customizable. Don't like where a photo is? Move it. Want to add a shadow behind a box? Do it. Want to change the font? Delete it? Add it? Go for it.

#2 reason this software is my favorite: You can literally build it from scratch. You can add anything and everything you want -- photos, text, boxes, borders, buttons, designs, etc. If you can dream it, you can do it. Now I will tell you, I don't have the creative ability to start from scratch. I prefer taking a template and molding it into my own.

Our Experiences:

Hands down, one of the most used baby items in our house (besides cloth diapers).

Now that I have a newborn (7 weeks old is still a newborn, right?) and a toddler, I am constantly tending to a child. And unfortunately, I can't always hold Andrew when I want to -- "Momma, snack! Momma, play cars! Momma, play in the kitchen" And there are those few times when my toddler is grumpy and doesn't want to share mommy.

Today I am thankful for my mother, who, by example, has taught me how to be a great mother.

I am also grateful that she spent the first month of Andrew's life with us. She's an amazing mother to give of herself like that. She did our laundry, cooked for us, cleaned for us, helped tend to Collin and Andrew...she got us into a routine and somehow convinced us we could take care of the boys.

I would be lost without her.

Our Experience:

One Word: LOVE

The first feature (and the feature I probably love most) is the superior fit of the size 1 diaper on Andrew. Andrew was probably around 7 pounds when I first tried this diaper on him. Looking at it, I thought.."hmm..I think he's still too small" -- but I was wrong!! It fits him PERFECTLY!! The double layer of snaps is super easy to use, too! And it's going to fit him for awhile too...which I love!

The second feature I love is the gussets!! Especially with newborns, gussets are the magic word. When you hear that explosion that makes you think your newborn's butt literally blew up...you can rest assured their poop isn't leaving the diaper!!

The third feature I love is the re-usablity of the cover! You can just wipe it down and bam! ready to use again!

The fourth feature I love is the versatility of the cover! I use it with the insert it came with...but also a fitted diaper and finally, a prefold.

The fifth feature that I love is the snap-in insert. The insert is quite absorbent and soft. It's also easy to use. Now, I do use it a bit differently than the website recommends. I snap it in but I don't tuck it under the flap in the front.

I can't just sit and do nothing...

If you have followed my page for long, you've seen the fundraisers we've had for Keegan. If you are new--let me share his story with you.

Keegan was diagnosed with brain cancer when he was just months old. His parents have been on a roller coaster as they have treated the cancer, thought they beat it, only to have it return. He is now 2 and at his most recent MRI check-up it was discovered his cancer had spread throughout his brain and spine. The doctors said there is nothing more they can do. They sent the family home with Hospice care.

My heart is just broken for Beth and her family. I can't begin to imagine what they must be feeling. I saw recently that Beth and her family are considering seeking alternative forms of cancer treatment--as traditional forms are no longer effective. Unfortunately, these are not covered by insurance.

Today, I took the boys on my very first outing -- just the 3 of us! We went to "Toddler Tuesday" at Jefferson Pointe--which is an outdoor mall about 45 minutes from where we live. We had a fabulous time and one place I want to thank for that is Von Maur.

Why am I thanking Von Maur? 2 words: Mother's Room. Yep, they have a room just for moms. It's fabulous. There's a changing table that has a contoured changing pad -- soft and cushy! There's a sink, a chair, table and carpet. The door locks -- so it's for one mom at a time. It's spacious--our stroller fit in there with NO problems. It's just fabulous. I was able to bring the boys in and let Collin roam while I nursed and changed Andrew. There was nothing for Collin to get into so he could just hang out, waiting on us. It was so nice not having to worry about Collin trying to get away while I was tending to Andrew.

So thank you, Von Maur, for realizing that a bathroom stall is not an acceptable place for me to feed my child.

The Little Bee Co. Cloth Diapers Diaper Drop in Jinja, Uganda

If you follow me on Facebook or twitter, you have most likely seen me profess my love for the newborn diapers from The Little Bee Co. Cloth Diapers. They are, without a doubt, our favorite newborn diaper. We also love their one-size bamboo diaper as well--Collin does too...whenever it goes on him he says "soft!"

Anyways, I wanted to share some links with you. Each time you or anyone else buys a diaper from this company, they donate one to an orphan. Once they collect enough diapers, they do a diaper drop. Well, they just had a diaper drop in Jinja, Uganda and I wanted to share their pictures and video. Several of the diapers we bought Andrew helped provide diapers for babies in the Serving His Children compound.

Cloth Diapering A Bitty Newborn

So, if you remember, Andrew came out quite smaller than anyone thought he would be (due to the unknown partial abruption of my placenta at the end of pregnancy). While he was estimated to be at least 7 lbs, he was born 5 lbs 12 ounces! Considering Collin was 8 lbs 12 ounces, this was quite a shock to us! We weren't used to a bitty guy!!

Well, one thing that has been new is cloth diapering a little guy! Collin came out at a good size for most regular newborn diapers and was in OS diapers in just a few weeks. Andrew is going to be in newborn diapers for a little bit longer, I'm guessing.

Anywho, we've discovered several brands we like. I wanted to share our experiences in case you are on the hunt for newborn diapers!

#1: The Little Bee Co. Cloth Diapers "Bitty Bee Changed Diaper": These are an AIO with snaps, including a snap-down center to accommodate the belly button clamp with newborns. These fit Andrew from birth! The gussets around the legs ensure you won't have blow-outs or leaks. Oh and the all natural bamboo lining is sooo soft!! They take awhile to dry in the dryer but outside they do even better!! These are my absolute favorite newborn diaper. I especially recommend these if you expect to have a little one.

#2: Grovia Newborn Diapers: These are an AIO with snaps, including a snap-down center. Although a bit bulky on Andrew, they do fit his skinny little legs well. I like that they have a natural cotton inner. And I like that the insert is sewn on to the diaper, not sewn in. Makes for quicker drying times! We were able to use these from birth!

#3: Rumparooz Lil Joeys: Again, these are an AIO with snaps, including a snap-down center. These fit Andrew beautifully. We have not had any leak issues. These have fit since birth. They do take awhile to dry in the dryer. The internal soft gussets do a great job of containing the poo.

#4: Nifty Nappy Bitty Bums: While they didn't fit from day 1, by day 4 they fit beautifully! This diaper is a fitted diaper that comes with an OBV lay-in insert. I love how soft and absorbent it is. I use a fleece cover over them and have not had any leaks or blowouts.

It's worth mentioning that Vilate, the original maker of the Nifty Nappy Bitty Bums, no longer makes these for retailers BUT you can buy them at Red Barn Cloth Diapers, since they bought a cottage license.

#5: Just for You Fleece Soaker: I use this fleece soaker over the bitty bums. The cover is perfect for Andrew's skinny legs. And it has a snap down center to accommodate the belly button. I use this cover 4-5 times a day...works beautifully!!

#6: Bummis Tini Fits: This is an AIO diaper that comes in aplix. Although bulky at birth, this diaper has fit from day 1. These are by far the easiest diapers to put on and take off (because of the velcro). And now that Andrew's belly button yuck is gone, we can use these even more--they tend to have a higher rise on him. They are also VERY absorbent and contain the messes. We LOVE our tini fits!

#7: Bumgenius newborn: While these did not fit from birth, once Andrew was a solid 6 pounds, these fit nicely! They are by far the trimmest of the newborn diapers. The velcro makes for easy on/easy off. And they are an AIO. They are pretty absorbent as well--Andrew can go about 3 hours in between changes with these diapers. LOVE our bumgenius diapers!

#8: The Graceful Moose fitted newborn diaper: This is, by far, the best fitting newborn fitted diaper we've used. This is one of the diapers I borrowed from my friend, The Tree Huggin' Momma. You can read an in-depth review of the diaper here. It has a snap-in liner. What I love most about this diaper is that it fit well below the belly button--so we could use this from birth. I just really love the fit on Andrew...it's outstanding! We use our fleece cover over this diaper.

We have a few more brands still to try, but last we checked, Andrew didn't quite fit in them. Once he does, I'll let you know my opinion on the Charlie Banana XS and Fuzzi Bunz XS diapers!

I also wanted to say that you will want between 30-36 diapers if you want to go a couple days in between washings.

And I just gotta say..I LOVE cloth diapering a newborn--it doesn't get any easier since we're breastfeeding! No rinsing! Just change the diaper, put it in our wetbag and wait until wash day to dump it all in :)

Andrew's Birth Story

Our newest little Biehl man was born via c-section on September 23rd at 4:01 pm. If you remember, I was scheduled to have a c-section on the 28th but my blood pressure had been scarily high this past week. My doctor asked me to come back at the end of the week to check my pressure. Well, it hadn't gone down..it was higher..and I was having contractions regularly, 10 minutes apart--nothing major but still concerning. But I also had protein in my urine. She decided that she didn't want to wait until the 28th to bring Andrew into the world. She feared that my blood pressure would keep rising until I had a seizure.

So we headed home, got our things, had Collin's Aunt Rachel come over and we headed back to the hospital. It was so different this time. With Collin, we were so nervous..this time, we were mostly just excited! I grabbed Collin's clean diapers that needed stuffed so I could pass the time on the way to the hospital (45 minutes). Yah, so after 5 minutes I was done..and we just tried to calm ourselves, lol!

When we got to the hospital, they were waiting for me. We got me hooked up and they were immediately watching my blood pressure. At one point before the c-section, my pressure was something like 186/118...they had wrapped the sides of my bed in blankets..a seizure precaution. They kept asking if I had vision problems or a headache..but I didn't...just high blood pressure.

Well fast forward a few hours, and I walked into the OR to get ready for my c-section. And this is my favorite part of Andrew's story. I got to watch Andrew be born...they lowered the sheet as my doctor pulled him out and it was so beautiful. There he was...my little man...oh...I can't describe the emotion that filled me...I just started crying...it was so beautiful (I didn't get to see Collin be born). My heart swelled. They let him stay in the OR with us. So I got to hear him scream and cry....the most beautiful noises!! Once he was cleaned up a little, Mark took him and sat beside me while they sewed me up. I got to look at Andrew and kiss him and be in a state of bliss. Oh, and I did NOT have to have my arms strapped down at all.

Once I was done in OR, they put me in recovery where Andrew and Mark got to stay with me!! Once my shivers calmed down (hormones), the nurse laid Andrew beside me and helped me try to nurse him. He got to eat a little! He was so alert....it was such a neat experience!! They brought the scale over and weighed him--that's where we found out he was really a little peanut!! 5 lbs 12 ounces!! My doctor discovered old blood behind my placenta during surgery. She thinks that I must have had a placenta abruption which probably led to my high blood pressure and why Andrew wasn't as big as we thought.

Andrew started get a bit cold so they brought him into the nursery to warm him up (the NICU nurse in OR didn't have the warming bed ready when Andrew was born--not very impressive but Mark just snuggled him). About that same time, I started to get a headache that turned into the worst headache of my life...no exaggeration.

While Andrew was warming and eventually getting a bath, I was battling a headache of epic proportions in my room...my blood pressure was climbing back up. And here's where I get a little angry. I was supposed to have been hooked up to morphine where I can click the button when I had pain...well, I was clicking the button but no pain was subsiding..so my blood pressure was climbing still. Well..come to find out...the nurses didn't actually get it hooked up correctly...again...not too impressive.

Anyways...I talked to my doctor on the phone and she called me in some different pain medicines. Within 10 minutes, I was feeling lots better--but not good enough to see anyone other than Collin and then Mark and Andrew. My doctor later said that I was experiencing post-partum pre-eclampsia. Scary stuff.

So that first night, I had them bring Andrew to me when he needed to nurse but otherwise he stayed in the nursery. By the next morning, I was a new woman. Andrew was able to stay in our room the whole stay--so awesome!! The nurses were 100% on board with the cloth diapers we were using. They thought they were so cute and neat! One nurse asked "what kind of fancy britches are those?!" and my doctor said "wow! That is the nicest cloth diaper I've ever seen!" (in reference to our Bummis Tini Fit). We weren't able to cloth diaper the whole time because a lot of the diapers I brought were TOO BIG for our little man, lol. But we were able to use some!

Between the high blood pressure, the placenta abruption and post-partum pre-eclampsia...we had some scary events...but we are home, happy and healthy!! Collin seems to like his brother--he likes to rubs his legs and arms--point out his nose and eyes...lol..it's too cute! We are so happy to be home and can stay (after 1 day home) so far, so good! haha!

I also have to share that my doctor was anxious to know if I was pleased with my birth experience since we had talked about it before. I told her I was MORE than pleased...I got everything I wanted--I got to see my little boy be born, he got to stay with me, nurse within the first hour of his life, snuggle me, snuggle Mark...it was beautifully amazing. I can forget all the other hiccups and screw-ups when I just think about how amazing it was to actually have a birth experience. So if you have to have a c-section, know that it doesn't just have to be a surgery...you can still have that birth experience..you just have to ask!

You can use the covers over fitted diapers, flats and prefolds. Fleece is water resistant (there can be compression leaks if worn under tight clothes or if the little one sits for a long time--we NEVER had a leak).

But what I think is BEST about fleece covers is they are SUPER easy to wash...they can be thrown in with regular laundry--you can use fabric softener...you really can't hurt these! We just wash ours with diaper laundry.

The fleece soaker I received fit Collin exceptionally well! He wore a fitted diaper under it for over 3 hours and we had ZERO leaks--and he's an active guy! When I changed him, the cover was dry on the outside even though the fitted diaper was wet!

It was easy to choose a size because she provides the range of measurements each size fits. LOVE this...there's no guessing.."will this fit?"

The construction is solid! It's not flimsy or weak. In fact, it still looks brand new right now!

The Little Bee Company Cloth Diapers Review & Giveaway

A few weeks ago, my friend over at The Tree Huggin' Momma told me about The Little Bee Company cloth diapers. Having a nephew that was adopted from the Congo, she knew I would really ~~like~~ LOVE their mission. Cloth Diapering a Newborn: Part 2: Bummis Newborn Pack Review

If you remember, my friend Kim was given the opportunity to try some different diapers with her newly adopted daughter, Maya. Last week, she shared with you her thoughts on the diapers from Top to Bottom Baby Boutique.

This week, she is going to share her thoughts on the Bummis Newborn Pack!

Kim's Thoughts:

My husband and I adopted our daughter, Maya, and are grateful to have been with her since her first breath. When we thought she might come 9 weeks early, I got connected with Crystal Biehl to get the scoop on tiny sized cloth diapers. With the generosity of Crystal’s connections and two retailers, we felt a big weight of relief that we would have diapers that would fit our baby before the time All in Ones would be useful (at about 8 pounds.) When Maya arrived at 38 weeks (hooray!), I got to be the first to feed and diaper her…and the first diaper on this little 5 pound, 10 oz. love-of-our-lives was a cloth prefold and Bummis wrap. She has rounded out now but had three months to wear her newborn diapers that we tried from Bummis.

Since I have been learning more about dioxin toxicity, particularly affecting female reproductive systems, I wanted to reduce our daughter’s exposure as much as possible. Using unbleached prefolds and organic cotton diapers are a couple of the ways we try to protect her sensitive skin.

Bummis diaper covers – Super Brite wraps:

I loved the patterns and covers. They fit nicely when she was a tiny tot. We figured out that with such skinny little legs, it was best to wrap the back around higher and bring the tabs in at a 45 degree angle pointing downward, rather than straight across the Velcro, for the best fit.

Organic Cotton Prefolds:

We could lay the newborn prefolds (flat diapers) in the cover without even clipping them in anyway. The newborn size prefolds worked great and are still great for little burp cloths. I actually still use them as diapers some – I lay two offset from one another lengthwise to make the diaper longer, then do a trifold (of the width) of the two together and it is absorbent enough to work on my now bigger baby. If my 30 year old prefolds that I use as rags are any indication, I think I will be able to use these prefolds for decades to come, just ‘repurposed’!

What did Mr. Collin think?

Oh my word!! I couldn't get the toy out of the box fast enough---Collin kept shouting "TRUCK! TRUCK!"

Once the toy was out of the box, he started driving the truck around the living room! He loved being able to drop the balls in and watch them shoot out! He had no problem figuring out how to play with his new toy! And the brightly colored balls are a nice touch--we've been working on colors and Collin likes to point out the colors he knows :)

I like how interactive it is. There are colorful balls, buttons, and sounds to keep him entertained!

There aren't a bunch of tiny parts, which mama loves!! You just have the balls and the truck--makes for easy clean up.

The noises it makes are not obnoxiously loud or annoying -- always a plus!

Um..it comes with batteries---always always always a plus in this house!!

And it's a Bright Starts™ toy--so you know it's great quality!

A few weeks ago, I received the Haan Total HD60 to test and review in my home. I am already a lover of Haan (thanks to my friends Rachel and Jessica). We also own the Haan FS 20. But Haan heard I was looking for something that would eliminate the need for a broom. You see..I hate sweeping..with a passion...No, hate is not strong enough..I LOATHE sweeping..and being 35 weeks pregnant makes it that much more annoying--having to bend down, sweep the dirt into the dustpan (that never makes it all the way in anyway).

Why is it AWESOME?

I think one of the things I love most about Haan is that their products literally put together in a matter of 2 minutes. No tools required to get this life-changing cleaning device together.

The low profile swivel head is awesome! It has no problems getting underneath the cabinet edges and the swivel head is SUPERB...it really swivels effortlessly!

The water tank is easy to get to, easy to fill, just easy to use!

I especially love that I can run the motorized brush roll WHILE I'm mopping...how so? Because the brush roll is in the front while the jets are just behind it. So you can suck up the dirt and then immediately after, the jets are cleaning and sanitizing your floors.

The jets are fabulous! I have a toddler, so you can imagine what's on my floor--fruit snacks that were chewed and spit out on the floor, yogurt residue, cookies/cracker crumbs...well, once the brush roll does its job, the jets step up and leave my floors sparkling! Seriously, each time I mop with my Haan, my floors look brand new. And again, no bending over, no stooping, no pushing around dirty mop water.

You can use the steam part of the Haan on any sealed, hard surface. We have a ton of wood floors, so that's wonderful for us!

You can use the motorized brush roll on hard surfaces and soft surfaces! We have a high pile carpet (like shag) and it picks dirt right up! And the best part? It's REALLY quiet..so I can use it during nap time (about the only time I have to clean anything).

Oh, and did I mention you can also freshen your carpets with this Haan? Yep..it comes with a carpet glide attachment. We've had some dingy spots on our floors for awhile. So I tried the Haan out and it really seemed to make a difference . I think a few more visits with the Haan and our carpets will be good as new!
